The City of Jacksonville has introduced a new holographic communication platform at Jacksonville International Airport. The innovative 3D message features Mayor Donna Deegan welcoming travelers and is available in multiple languages, thanks to AI technology.
Mayor Deegan expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “It’s incredibly exciting to debut this message at JAX, and just in time for the holidays.” She highlighted the city's commitment to using advanced technology to enhance communication and improve residents' lives.
The lifelike hologram device is developed by U.S. startup Proto. It presents video so realistic that it appears as though a person is inside the 7-foot-tall machine. The device also offers interactive features and can handle live feeds.
Travelers will encounter the mayor's message as they exit airport security before heading to baggage claim. This message is also accessible in Spanish and other languages.
Mark VanLoh, CEO of Jacksonville Aviation Authority, commented on the development: “We are thrilled that JAX, in partnership with the city will be one of the first airports in the nation to debut this amazing technology.” He noted its potential to impress visitors whether they are new or returning home.
Proto boxes not only display pre-recorded messages but can also project live subjects from any camera or mobile phone globally. While technically not holograms, these displays create an illusion with shadows and reflections that convince viewers there might be someone present.
JAXEPICS sponsors this initiative as part of Jacksonville's efforts to become a Small Business Capital Center of the South by simplifying its permitting process.
