Charles Griggs Appointed Director of Community Initiatives

Charles Griggs has been appointed as the new Director of Community Initiatives for the City of Jacksonville. Griggs, who previously served as the President of Eighth & Whitner Group LLC, brings a wealth of experience in media, marketing, and government relations.

Before his role at Eighth & Whitner Group LLC, Griggs worked for the Florida Department of Health in Duval County, where he held positions as the Director of Communications and Community Engagement, as well as the Director of External Affairs. He has also been actively involved in various community organizations, including the 100 Black Men of Jacksonville, Inc., where he is a longtime member and serves on the board of directors of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.

Griggs's appointment comes with a significant responsibility in promoting community initiatives that focus on a comprehensive approach to public safety, with a particular emphasis on crime prevention and intervention. One of his key tasks will be to reimagine the Jacksonville Journey, a vital program aimed at addressing community issues.

Mayor Donna Deegan expressed her confidence in Griggs, stating, "I am very much looking forward to Charles joining the Mayor’s Office in this critical role. He brings vast knowledge and experience in both city government and the Jacksonville Journey. Relaunching this vital program is a top priority of our administration, and it will be in good hands with Charles at the helm."

Griggs's appointment is seen as a positive step towards strengthening community engagement and improving outcomes for the Jacksonville community. With his extensive background in community initiatives and government relations, Griggs is well-positioned to make a significant impact in his new role as the Director of Community Initiatives for the City of Jacksonville.
