Today, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-05) introduced H.R. 6955, the Investing in Uniformed Division Leadership Act, in collaboration with Bennie G. Thompson, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security. The proposed bill aims to enhance the support and recognition for the Chief and Assistant Chief positions of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division.

The main objective of this legislation is to elevate the Chief and Assistant Chief positions to the Senior Executive Service, aligning their pay and benefits with the level of responsibility and strategic importance of their roles. By doing so, Congressman Rutherford intends to ensure the Secret Service can recruit and retain the most qualified and skilled officers.

Congressman Rutherford, drawing from his experience as a former sheriff, emphasized the significance of investing in executive training and leadership within the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division. He believes that this investment will help the Secret Service maintain its pool of talented leaders, ultimately enhancing their ability to protect the nation's leaders.

In agreement with Congressman Rutherford, Bennie G. Thompson acknowledged the crucial role played by the Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief and Assistant Chief, who oversee a law enforcement staff of over 1,700 officers. Thompson stated, "They are critical to our homeland security, and their positions clearly belong in the Senior Executive Service." He expressed his gratitude to Congressman Rutherford for introducing this bipartisan bill and expressed his anticipation for its consideration in the House.

By elevating the Chief and Assistant Chief positions to the Senior Executive Service, it will ensure that these individuals are appropriately compensated for their vital responsibilities in safeguarding the nation's leaders. The bill, introduced by Congressman Rutherford and supported by Ranking Member Thompson, demonstrates a bipartisan effort to strengthen the Secret Service and equip its officers with the necessary resources to fulfill their duties effectively.
