The Emergency Preparedness Division in Jacksonville has put into action the Warming Center Contingency Plan due to the cold weather forecast. The plan is triggered when temperatures fall to 27 degrees or lower, providing overnight shelter for residents without adequate heating.
The City of Jacksonville Warming Center will operate from Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 9 p.m. to Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 9 a.m. It will be located at The Legends Center on Soutel Drive in Jacksonville.
Transportation to the center will be available via JTA buses for those in need. The facility will be staffed and provide water. Residents are advised to bring their own bedding, snacks, medication, games or toys, and hygiene items.
In addition to this center, all COJ Libraries and Community Centers throughout Duval County will serve as warming centers during regular business hours. More information and safety tips can be accessed at jaxready.com/StayWarmJax.
Local non-profit organizations are also offering cold-weather shelter services for homeless individuals. These include City Rescue Mission on West State Street, Mission House with overnight operations at St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal – Parish Hall in Jacksonville Beach, Sulzbacher Center locations for men and women/children on East Adams Street and Springfield Blvd respectively, and Trinity Rescue Mission on West Union Street.
