The city has announced upcoming changes to the traffic patterns in the downtown area, starting on February 22, 2025. The project will be carried out in two phases and aims to reintroduce two-way travel on Forsyth and Adams Streets.

In Phase 1, traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the south side of Adams Street and the north side of Forsyth Street for approximately 60 days. The single-lane reduction on Forsyth Street will begin on February 22, while Adams Street will see similar changes starting March 1.

Upon completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 will commence with traffic shifting to a single lane on the north side of Adams Street and the south side of Forsyth Street. This phase is also expected to last about 60 days until the streets are reopened for two-way traffic.

The work involved during these phases includes milling and resurfacing of roadways, installation of signs and pavement markings, parking kiosks, and signalization. Construction equipment and vehicles will frequently enter and exit work zones throughout each day.

While access to businesses, properties, and pedestrian features will remain available, minor stoppages may occur at entry/exit points and intersecting streets due to equipment movement. Additionally, street parking within designated work zones will be closed off; however, parking remains open on non-work zone sides.

The initiative aligns with long-standing priorities in the Downtown master plan as well as updates from Mobility Plan projects. It receives funding from the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA). The current focus includes two-way conversions along with sidewalk expansion areas and enhanced streetscapes. Future plans involve more streets undergoing similar transformations.

The goal is not only to encourage economic growth but also boost property values while supporting efficient use of street parking services like rideshares. Moreover, it enhances retail visibility along with improving walkability which elevates residential demand quality life standards overall.
