Aug 26, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rick Scott, along with Senator Marco Rubio and Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart, María Elvira Salazar, Michael Waltz, Neal Dunn, Byron Donalds, and Carlos Gimenez have written a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee supporting Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the letter, the members highlight Machado's notable contributions to restoring democratic governance in Venezuela. They emphasize her efforts in risking everything and facing endless threats to help the Venezuelan people elect a legitimate leader, President-elect Edmundo González.

"In contrast with the oppression, torture, murder, and economic deprivation at the hands of the Chávez-Maduro dictatorship," they state in their letter, "the peaceful leadership of Machado has become a beacon of hope and resilience for the people of Venezuela."
