Senator Rick Scott has called for accountability from Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough ahead of his visit to Jacksonville on April 23. In a statement released today, Senator Scott demanded action from the secretary following multiple calls for accountability from the VA system.
Senator Scott expressed his concerns stating, “While I am very happy Florida will be home to another VA facility to provide services to the millions of veterans who call the Sunshine State home, I am once again demanding that the Biden administration and Secretary McDonough finally take action and hold themselves accountable for failures that are hurting our veterans."
The senator emphasized the need for change in leadership at poorly-ranked hospitals, particularly referencing the tragic homicide at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center last month. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the welfare and protection of patients and staff, stating, "The homicide last month at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is tragic and unacceptable. While in Florida, Secretary McDonough must announce what the VA is doing to ensure this never happens again."
Senator Scott, a Navy veteran and the son of a World War II veteran, stressed the significance of supporting military members and their families, asserting, "If you put your life on the line in defense of our freedoms, your government should always have your back."
As part of his efforts to advocate for veterans, Senator Scott encourages those in need of assistance from the VA or a federal agency to visit his website for casework assistance.
The call for accountability and action from Secretary McDonough comes amidst growing concerns over systemic failures within the VA system and the need to prioritize the well-being of veterans and service members.
