WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, confronted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the border crisis during a hearing in Washington. Senator Scott criticized the Biden administration for prioritizing politics over national security and the safety of American families.
Scott accused Mayorkas of allowing a surge in illegal border crossings and failing to enforce the law. He highlighted the dangers posed by criminals and terrorists entering the country unchecked, stating, “Today, more than 10 million people have illegally crossed and 6 million have been allowed to stay... courtesy of the American taxpayers because Secretary Mayorkas has failed to enforce the law and ordered his agency to ignore it.”
Senator Scott also raised concerns about the impeachment process, questioning why Democrats chose to dismiss the impeachment of Mayorkas. He suggested that the decision was influenced by fear and lack of trust in Mayorkas, stating, “It’s clear to me that in the minds of the American people, both are true.”
During the hearing, Senator Scott pointed out the contradictions in Democratic actions regarding border security, stating, “So, it seems to me that Democrats have no problem voting to keep this border crisis going and blocking every attempt that Republicans make to stop the crime and secure the border. But when it comes to you, they shut everything down and don’t let you speak.”
In a direct query to Secretary Mayorkas, Scott asked, “Do you think you are being silenced because Democrats are terrified of your record and unable to defend you, or because they don’t trust you?”
The exchange between Senator Rick Scott and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding border security and the management of the Department of Homeland Security.
