Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) have spoken out following the Biden Administration's choice not to extend a license to do business with Maduro's oil industry. Rubio expressed that the decision should have been made earlier and is insufficient given the current situation in Venezuela, stating, "El anuncio de hoy que el presidente Biden no renovará una licencia general para hacer negocios con el sector de petróleo y gas del régimen de Maduro es algo que debería haberse hecho hace mucho tiempo y es insuficiente dadas las realidades actuales en Venezuela."

Risch emphasized the need for a response from the US and the international community, saying, “Tanto EE.UU. como la comunidad internacional debe responder a estos ataques y seguir responsabilizando al régimen de Maduro." Additionally, Rubio called for diplomatic efforts to increase sanctions on the Maduro regime and enforce the indictment from March 2020 against Maduro and members of the Cártel de Los Soles, stating, “La Administración Biden debería emprender esfuerzos diplomáticos para persuadir a la Unión Europea y otros socios democráticos a aumentar las sanciones al régimen y hacer cumplir la acusación de marzo del 2020 contra Nicolás Maduro y los miembros del Cártel de Los Soles.”

This comes after both Rubio and Risch, along with their colleagues, sent a letter to President Biden earlier this week urging for economic pressure on the criminal regime and the non-renewal of relief on oil sanctions.
