U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) highlighted the potential for progress in El Salvador, stating, "El Salvador is a bright spot. It can become even brighter." Rubio emphasized the positive changes under President Nayib Bukele's leadership, noting the country's transformation from one of the world's most dangerous to one of the safest and most promising in the region.

During his visit to El Salvador in March 2023, Rubio witnessed the effective measures taken by the Bukele administration to address security issues. He pointed out that while eliminating criminal gangs like MS-13 and Barrio 18 was a crucial first step, the next focus should be on revitalizing the Salvadoran economy. Rubio stressed the importance of maintaining strong security measures while also working towards economic growth, stating, "Prosperity follows from security."

Rubio outlined key steps for the Bukele administration to enhance the country's economic prospects, including professionalizing law enforcement, strengthening the court system, and preventing the resurgence of gangs in neighboring countries. He also expressed hope for increased cooperation between the United States and El Salvador to attract foreign investment and promote economic development.

However, Rubio criticized the approach of President Joe Biden's administration towards El Salvador, suggesting that closer ties with Bukele could bring mutual benefits. He urged against undermining the progress made in El Salvador and emphasized the need to prevent the country from falling into Chinese debt traps.

In conclusion, Rubio emphasized the importance of supporting El Salvador's democratic institutions and economic opportunities to ensure long-term stability and growth.
