WASHINGTON, D.C. - A bipartisan group of lawmakers from Florida, led by Congressman John Rutherford and Senator Rick Scott, have sent a letter to President Joe Biden expressing their concerns about the pause on new export permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The letter emphasizes the negative impacts of interrupting U.S. LNG exports and the potential reliance on foreign adversaries to meet global energy needs.

Congressman Rutherford stated, "U.S. LNG exports provide our allies a source of stable, clean, American-made fuel that they rely on to meet their energy needs." He further added, "Our country and the world are stronger and safer when America is leading in energy production."

The letter, signed by several members of Florida's congressional delegation, highlights the importance of U.S. LNG exports for global energy security. It warns of the dangers of suspending non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) export permit applications, particularly as outlined in the "LNG Plan."

Florida plays a crucial role in U.S. LNG exports, and any decisions made regarding export permits will directly impact the state's economy and security. The lawmakers argue that Florida's unique circumstances and advantages should be considered in shaping national policy on LNG exports.

The letter also underscores the vital role of U.S. LNG exports in contributing to global energy security. It highlights that nearly half of U.S. LNG exports have been directed to Europe, especially during critical times such as Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. Florida's position as an energy exporting state extends to Asia as well, where U.S. LNG has significantly contributed to the energy security of countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and India.

The lawmakers express concerns that restricting American LNG exports could hinder global emission reduction goals. By encouraging adversaries with less stringent environmental regulations, such as Russia, China, Venezuela, and Iran, to increase energy production, the reduction of emissions is compromised. Moreover, the pause on LNG exports could potentially enrich these adversaries and diminish the impact of U.S. and global sanctions.

Economically, the benefits of U.S. LNG exports are significant, with the potential to create jobs and boost GDP. Florida, in particular, stands to gain substantially from increased LNG exports. However, the pause on permits puts future job development in the state on hold.

The lawmakers urge President Biden to reconsider the pause on LNG exports and align the policy review with real-world needs. They emphasize the importance of allowing the LNG export review process to continue while the new green climate activist political appeasement review is undertaken.

In conclusion, the lawmakers highlight the importance of American leadership in LNG exports and its associated environmental, economic, and national security benefits. They stress that the security of the nation, partnerships with allies, progress on emissions reduction, stability of global energy markets, and future job development should not be put on "pause" while internal assessments are conducted.

The letter concludes by stating, "Representing the great state of Florida, we believe it is our duty to champion, rather than undermine, the crucial contributions of American LNG exports and the associated environmental, economic, and national security benefits for our state, our country, and our allies."
