Less than 24 hours after a close, disappointing loss to Virginia Union, Edward Waters was able to return to their winning ways with a 59-45 victory over Virginia State in the final contest of the CIAA/SIAC Challenge at the VSU MultiPurpose Center on Saturday afternoon.
Edward Waters (3-1) found their offensive rhythm throughout the contest, outshooting VSU (2-3) 43.8% to 27.1%. Rebounding numbers were much more in their favor on Saturday as opposed to Friday, with the Lady Tigers taking a 34-25 edge on the boards. EWU had more success beyond the arc in the contest as well, connecting on 31.3% of their shots from three-point range to just 13.6% for the homestanding Trojans.
The Purple & Orange put three players in double figures in the contest, led by Isis Smith with her double-double effort of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tatum Hayes got back in her offensive groove on Saturday, with 14 points and six rebounds, while Kyana Johnnson chipped in with 10 points and nine boards for EWU.
The Lady Tigers will continue their road trip on Monday in Rock Hill, South Carolina against the Golden Bears of Clinton College with tip-off slated for 12:00pm.
