Today, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution commemorating the seventh anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. The resolution was filed by Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody to honor the 17 lives lost on February 14, 2018.
Senator Rick Scott expressed his sorrow over the tragic event: “Seven years ago, 17 beautiful lives were taken far too soon by a senseless attack in Parkland, Florida. Every year, this day holds a heavy place in our hearts as we remember the students and educators whose lives were cut short by pure evil. I often think of them and the bright futures each had ahead. Each time I do, my heart breaks knowing they were robbed of the opportunity to live their dreams, and I pray for their families still living with the unimaginable loss and pain of that day that never goes away. I’m thankful to Senator Ashley Moody and all of our colleagues in the Senate for joining me in honoring the memory of these 17 lives lost with the passage of this resolution.”
Senator Ashley Moody also shared her thoughts: “Today, we remember the innocent lives cut tragically short by the devastating attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. As a mother, I cannot fathom the pain these parents carry with them following the sudden loss of their children. It’s important that we honor their memory, and I am grateful to join Sen. Scott to sponsor this important resolution.”
The resolution aims to keep alive the memory of those who perished during one of America's most tragic school shootings.
