Senator Rick Scott's Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act was signed into law on December 12, 2024. The legislation aims to provide disaster-loss tax relief for communities affected by disasters in Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and other regions across the nation. This includes those impacted by Hurricanes Helene, Debby, and Milton this year, as well as Hurricanes Ian, Nicole, Fiona, and Idalia from previous years.
Senator Rick Scott expressed his satisfaction with the passage of the bill: “After years of fighting, I am incredibly proud to see the passage of meaningful tax relief for families who faced devastation and loss from Hurricanes Ian, Idalia, Helene, Milton and other disasters in recent years." He emphasized that families have been waiting too long for assistance. "My Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act becoming law will finally start getting families in Florida, Puerto Rico and folks across the nation the tax relief they need and deserve after suffering losses from these devastating storms."
Scott also thanked supporters of the legislation and acknowledged the president for promptly signing it into law to expedite relief efforts: "I want to thank everyone who supported the legislation and the president for quickly signing it into law to bring relief as soon as possible."
