Today, Senator Rick Scott met with Pete Hegseth, who has been nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of Secretary of Defense. The meeting took place in Washington, D.C., as part of the process to support Hegseth's nomination.

Senator Scott expressed his confidence in Hegseth's capabilities, stating, “I’ve been talking to Pete since his nomination, and I think he’ll do a great job. He’s a decorated combat veteran and a great pick to run the Department of Defense." Scott emphasized his appreciation for those who serve in the military and risk their lives for national security.

Scott further elaborated on Hegseth's understanding of military needs and alignment with President Trump's agenda. “Pete understands the mission and what is needed to advance President Trump’s agenda and reform the DoD to make America’s military the world’s most lethal fighting force," he said. Highlighting Hegseth's personal experience in combat, Scott noted that "he understands the sacrifice our military and their families make because he’s been to war."

The senator also praised Hegseth's leadership qualities and commitment to accountability within the Department of Defense. "Pete knows how to hold people accountable, make sure we promote based on meritocracy," Scott stated. He criticized policies from the previous administration and expressed full support for Hegseth's confirmation: "He has my full support and I look forward to voting to confirm him as Secretary of Defense.”
