The City of Jacksonville is set to host its annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday, November 11, at 11:01 a.m. in Downtown Jacksonville. The event is presented by The Law Offices of Ron Sholes, P.A., and aims to honor military personnel past and present.
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan expressed her pride in the event, stating, “It is truly an honor to be able to participate in this parade, which celebrates our military and veteran community.” She added that Jacksonville is "a proud military town," and the parade serves as a way to thank local veterans for their service.
This year's parade will feature Mayor Deegan alongside Grand Marshal Senator John Thrasher. Thrasher served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged as a decorated Captain. Participants will include senior military officials, active duty and retired units, veteran groups, local school groups, and decorative floats.
The parade route begins on Water Street in front of the Jacksonville Center of the Performing Arts. It will proceed onto Hogan Street before continuing east on Bay Street until reaching LOT X near EverBank Stadium.
Several road closures are planned for the event. Full closures begin at 7:30 a.m., with rolling closures starting at 10:00 a.m. All roads are expected to reopen by 2:00 p.m., or when the parade concludes.
