According to a recent publication, Jacksonville ranks fifth among U.S. cities attracting college graduates. The analysis was based on data from the U.S. Census 2023 American Community Survey and state-level migrations. It found that Jacksonville experienced a net migration of 5,310 college-educated residents in 2023.

Key factors influencing college graduates' decision to move include cost of living, tax environment, career opportunities, and cultural amenities. These are areas where Jacksonville reportedly excels compared to its peer cities. Housing affordability and availability also play a significant role for prospective residents. Jacksonville is witnessing growth in housing inventory and a decrease in year-over-year rent prices due to the administration's focus on affordable housing.

Mayor Donna Deegan commented on the city's appeal: “It’s not a surprise to see that Jacksonville is attracting such a large pool of college graduates.” She added, “The word is out across the country that we are a fantastic place to live, work and play. This influx of talent will further bolster our local economy’s growing industries, including FinTech, healthcare, banking, manufacturing, and logistics.”
