Ahead of the upcoming switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has reiterated his support for making Daylight Saving Time permanent. In a recent statement, he emphasized the need to stop changing clocks twice a year.
“It’s time to lock the clock and stop enduring the ridiculous and antiquated practice of switching our clocks back and forth. Let’s finally pass my Sunshine Protection Act and end the need to ‘fall back’ and ‘spring forward’ for good,” said Senator Rubio.
The Sunshine Protection Act was reintroduced by Rubio in March 2023 during the 118th Congress with the aim of eliminating the biannual clock changes.
Rubio's efforts have been ongoing, with notable moments including his renewed push for permanent Daylight Saving Time in March 2024, calls for full passage of the act in November 2023, and reintroduction of similar legislation as far back as March 2022 when it received widespread praise following Senate passage.
