Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' August jobs report, which shows an increase in the unemployment rate to 4.2% from 3.8% in August 2023, Senator Rick Scott issued a statement addressing these figures. The report highlights that job creation is significantly lower than anticipated, with an increase of 458,000 multiple job holders over the past year. Additionally, the June and July jobs reports have been revised down by a total of 86,000 jobs.

Senator Scott stated, "Under the Biden-Harris administration, costs are way up and opportunities are vanishing for hardworking families. Along with the Harris Price Hikes created by inflation that is up 20%+ under this administration, we are now seeing unemployment remain elevated at 4.2%. Last month, the U.S. added the fewest number of private sector jobs since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office and today’s report shows that full-time jobs are down by 1.1 million year-over-year while part-time jobs have exploded by 971,000 – both figures are DOUBLE what was stated in last month’s report."

He continued, "Unfortunately, none of these facts have stopped Biden and Harris from lying to the American people. Biden and Harris claim jobs are up and then get caught in a lie when revisions erase more than 800,000 jobs they claimed to be created. The administration claims inflation is cooling but month after month we see prices go higher and force more folks to do more with less. We are sick of the lies."

Scott emphasized his personal connection to economic struggles: "As someone that grew up poor and lived in public housing, I know what it’s like to feel like the deck is stacked against you and that’s exactly how too many Americans are feeling today because of the failed policies of Biden and Harris that are killing their chance at the American Dream."

The senator concluded by stating that it took less than three years for Biden-Harris policies to impact negatively on the economy and labor market: "Florida families can’t afford another four years of this.”

Since his election to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has consistently called for action on America's debt crisis and inflation's adverse effects.
