WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rick Scott released a statement following reports that Vice President Kamala Harris is proposing federal price controls to combat inflation. Scott attributes the inflation to what he describes as the failed policies of the Biden-Harris administration, reckless government spending, and an aggressive stance against American energy.

Scott stated: “Tomorrow, Vice President Harris, who has never created a business, understood profits and losses, paid payrolls, or competed in a consumer market, will propose federal price controls. That should terrify all Americans. She claims Congress must ban ‘price gouging,’ which is already widely illegal and not the cause of high prices. The exorbitant prices created by the Biden-Harris administration are not price gouging; it is inflation. Her solution to the price increases she caused is a steroidal government where Washington bureaucrats interfere with American businesses and dictate pricing. It never works because it makes companies produce much less of something, destroying supply and causing massive shortages of goods. Basic economic principles taught in a high school class would cover this.”

He added: “We can control inflation when the federal government stops recklessly spending money it doesn’t have and finally wins the destructive war that the Biden-Harris administration has waged against the American energy sector, which has driven up costs across the board.”

Since his election to the U.S. Senate, Scott has repeatedly called for measures to address America's debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation.
