WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the illegitimate Cuban regime, just 90 miles off the coast of Florida, continues its attempts to threaten stability and security in the Western Hemisphere and commit atrocities against its citizens, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have announced the introduction of a resolution demanding accountability. The Cuban regime has turned Cuba into a safe haven for communist China, Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. The United States must continue to defend democracy and the rights of the Cuban people. Representative María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) introduced a complementary resolution in the House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott stated: “The illegitimate communist Cuban regime is a destabilizing force in the Western Hemisphere, a safe haven for terrorists, a friend to America's enemies, an oppressor of the Cuban people, and a violator of human rights. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped the Biden-Harris administration from pursuing the same weak appeasement policies prioritized by Obama for this state sponsor of terrorism, which have only strengthened the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime. Cuban military thugs are being used to help puppets like Maduro and repress the Venezuelan people. The United States must take a stand, and I am proud to join my colleagues in this resolution to make it clear that we will NOT tolerate human rights abuses by the illegitimate communist Cuban regime and will use all our government's power to hold them accountable. I stand with the brave Cuban people and will never forget their struggle.”

Senator Rubio remarked: “The world is witnessing how the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime has served as a puppet for China, Iran, and more recently Russia. The U.S. has a moral duty to defend our country's interests and must continue to uphold democratic order and justice in our hemisphere.”
