U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on Hannity to discuss the conviction of former President Donald Trump by a New York City jury. Below are highlights from the interview, which can be viewed in full on YouTube and Rumble.

On the conviction of former President Donald Trump by a New York City jury, Rubio stated: “This is a quintessential show trial. This is what you see in communist countries. This is what I grew up having people in the [Cuban exile] community tell me about. It happened in the days after the Castro revolution. Obviously, those led to executions. This, on the other hand, is an effort to interfere in an election."

Rubio criticized President Joe Biden's administration, saying: “Let’s all be clear about what’s happening here. Joe Biden is clearly senile and declining. He’s clearly weak, which is why the world is on fire. He’s incompetent, which is why we have runaway inflation and a border that is being invaded every single day." He added that Biden "likes to lie" about issues such as the economy and border security.

Regarding Trump's legal challenges, Rubio remarked: “In this particular case, they found themselves a Democrat judge... His daughter is a campaign consultant for Democrats who’s actually out there marketing ‘Convict Trump’ stuff." He also pointed out that Manhattan's voter base heavily favored Biden.

Rubio elaborated on the charges against Trump: “Donald Trump signed checks... he labeled them as payments to his lawyer... That is what they convicted him on.” He suggested that keeping Trump tied up in court was politically motivated: “You think this judge setting [the sentencing] three days before the [Republican national] convention is a coincidence?”

He concluded with concerns about political weaponization of the court system: “This is the most outrageous travesty I’ve ever seen... They have crossed the line in which now the court system is a political weapon." Rubio called for bipartisan efforts to prevent future occurrences: "We cannot become one of those countries where people, once they leave office, are targeted through the court system by their political opponents."
