Senator Rick Scott is calling on President Biden to address the issue of Chinese solar companies circumventing U.S. trade laws and engaging in illegal practices. This comes as U.S. solar manufacturers seek investigations and duties on imported solar products from southeast Asian nations, primarily by Chinese companies. Senator Scott criticized Biden for vetoing legislation aimed at holding Chinese companies accountable, stating, “Instead of standing against child labor and slavery, and supporting American-made solar manufacturers by signing my CRA, Biden chose cowardly appeasement of the genocidal regime in Communist China and vetoed it.”
Last year, Senator Scott led the passage of legislation to rescind a Commerce Department rule that allowed Chinese solar manufacturers to bypass U.S. tariffs. Despite this, President Biden vetoed the legislation, leading to continued challenges for American companies and workers. Senator Scott emphasized the importance of addressing these issues, stating, “After two years of allowing Communist Chinese companies to benefit off Biden’s weakness, the president has the opportunity to finally do the right thing and hold these companies accountable.” He urged President Biden to reverse his previous decisions and take action to support American businesses and national security interests.
Senator Scott's efforts have been ongoing, with previous measures and bipartisan support aimed at eliminating waivers for Chinese solar companies using slave and child labor. The Senator has been vocal in his criticism of Biden's approach to Chinese trade practices, emphasizing the need for a level playing field for American businesses. As the issue continues to unfold, Senator Rick Scott remains committed to pushing for accountability and fair trade practices in the solar industry.
