U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) recently appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss the ISIS attack against Russia and the potential threat of terrorists crossing the U.S. southern border. Rubio expressed concerns about the implications of these security threats and the need for heightened vigilance.
Rubio emphasized the danger posed by terrorist organizations like ISIS, stating, "[ISIS] has always hated Russia. They hate Iran too." He highlighted the ease with which terrorists could potentially enter the United States, drawing attention to the influx of illegal border crossings. Rubio pointed out, "We’ve had nine million people come across our border illegally. No one can tell me that of the nine million people that have entered this country illegally, there isn’t a really high probability that at least four are members of an organization like this."
The Senator also referenced information shared by the FBI director regarding trafficking networks linked to terrorist groups like ISIS. Rubio expressed his apprehension, stating, "They are very concerned about a trafficking network that is linked to terrorists like ISIS." He underscored the risks associated with such networks facilitating the entry of terrorists into the United States.
Addressing the issue of border security, Rubio highlighted the vulnerabilities that could be exploited by terrorists seeking entry into the country. He warned, "If you’re ISIS, you want to attack the United States." Rubio pointed out the potential for individuals to acquire fake passports through illicit means, enabling them to bypass security measures and enter the U.S.
Regarding the Senate's bipartisan immigration bill, Rubio expressed skepticism about its effectiveness in addressing border security concerns. He argued, "That bill wouldn’t have done anything to stop something like that." Rubio raised concerns about the provisions of the bill that could potentially exacerbate the situation, noting, "They would have also qualified to get a work permit immediately." He cautioned against policies that could inadvertently incentivize illegal immigration and jeopardize national security.
Senator Rubio's remarks underscore the ongoing challenges and complexities associated with border security and the need for comprehensive measures to safeguard against potential threats posed by terrorist organizations exploiting weaknesses in the U.S. immigration system.
