U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) criticized China's inaction in the Red Sea, stating that it proves China is not a "responsible stakeholder". Rubio highlighted the situation in the Red Sea where the Houthis, an Islamic militant movement based in Yemen, are attacking peaceful vessels with weapons supplied by Iran. He pointed out that while naval vessels from the U.S., the U.K., and other nations have responded, Chinese ships have not.

Rubio emphasized that protecting shipping from terrorism and piracy is a fundamental responsibility in the international arena, a duty that Beijing seems to ignore despite its naval base in Djibouti near the Red Sea. He accused China of showing diplomacy towards Iran to address the issue but failing to exert real pressure on Tehran, as the Houthis provide Chinese vessels with free passage.

The Senator questioned China's credibility in upholding international peace and prosperity, especially as it maintains close ties with Iran and Russia. He concluded that Beijing's interests are self-serving and do not align with the values of democracy and global stability.

Rubio's remarks shed light on the complexities of China's foreign relations and its approach to international responsibilities, raising concerns about the country's commitment to global security and cooperation.
