The Rise Doro apartment building in Jacksonville is currently facing closures in certain areas due to significant damage that has compromised the building's integrity. These closures are aimed at safeguarding businesses and residents in the surrounding area. The affected areas include Duval St E (Georgia St. to Palmetto St.), Adams St. (APR to Layfette St.), APR (Duval St to Bay St), and Gatorbowl Blvd. (Layfette to Georgia St). Sidewalks within these zones are also closed.

"Structural engineers have evaluated the Rise Doro building, identifying significant damage that has compromised the building's integrity," said a spokesperson from the City of Jacksonville. "Following this assessment, the City, adhering to municipal codes [518.111], deemed the Rise Doro apartments an unsafe structure and subsequently condemned the building [518.301]. As a seven-story structure, it poses an immediate threat to the surrounding area."

The City of Jacksonville, in collaboration with structural engineers, has worked to minimize impacts on the area while ensuring public safety. The closures are necessary to prevent any potential accidents or further damage.

The duration of these emergency closures will depend on ongoing assessments. The City, along with the property owner, is striving to minimize impacts on the surrounding area and businesses. Assessments will determine when area businesses and roads can reopen.

"The demolition process is scheduled to commence by February 1, 2024," stated the spokesperson. "The contractor, Elev8, is aiming to complete the process swiftly and safely."

For more information or specific questions about the impact timeframe, individuals can contact Municipal Code Compliance at codeenforcement@coj.net or call (904) 255-7000.

The Rise Doro apartment building closures and subsequent demolition process are part of the City of Jacksonville's efforts to prioritize public safety and address the compromised integrity of the building. The closures will remain in effect until the necessary assessments are completed, and the demolition process is expected to be carried out promptly by the designated contractor.
