WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rick Scott, along with Senator Ron Johnson and 13 other Senate GOP colleagues, has sent a letter to Conference Chair John Barrasso requesting a meeting of the Conference to discuss the ongoing negotiations on border security with President Biden and Senate Democrats. The letter, signed by Senators Mike Lee, J.D. Vance, Marsha Blackburn, Tommy Tuberville, Josh Hawley, Ted Budd, Jim Risch, Roger Marshall, M.D., Ted Cruz, Eric Schmitt, Mike Braun, Marco Rubio, and Lindsey Graham, emphasizes the need for open and transparent negotiations.

In the letter, the senators highlight their concerns about rushed and secret negotiations with Democrats who they believe want an open border. They argue that such negotiations will not effectively secure the border and call for a more inclusive and transparent process. The senators assert that the American public deserves to be part of an open and transparent dialogue on border security, and this can only be achieved when the House returns the week of January 8, 2024.

The letter states, "Rushed and secret negotiations with Democrats who want an open border and who caused the current crisis will not secure the border. The American public deserves an open and transparent process which cannot occur until the House returns the week of January 8, 2024." The senators request that the Conference be held the week of January 8th, but not before.

This call for a meeting of the Conference comes at a crucial time when discussions on border security are at the forefront. The senators are urging their colleagues to prioritize the interests of the American public and ensure that the negotiations are conducted in a transparent manner. By reaching out to Conference Chair John Barrasso, they hope to initiate a comprehensive discussion that leads to effective solutions for securing the border.

The full text of the letter can be found on the official website of Senator Rick Scott.

As the negotiations on border security continue, it is imperative that all stakeholders come together to find common ground and address the concerns of the American public. The call for a meeting of the Conference demonstrates the senators' commitment to an open and transparent process, where all voices are heard and considered.
