Washington, D.C. - Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate congratulating the Florida State University (FSU) women's soccer team for their victory in the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The resolution highlights the team's exceptional performance throughout the season and their historic undefeated record.

The resolution acknowledges that this is the fourth NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship won by the Seminoles. Notably, FSU finished the season with a record of 22 wins, 0 losses, and 1 tie, marking the first time in school history that they remained undefeated. This achievement places them among the elite group of only four schools to finish a season undefeated in NCAA history.

In addition to their outstanding team performance, the Seminoles had several individual players who excelled on the field. Onyi Echegini, a senior midfielder, was recognized as the 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the ACC All-Conference First Team. Jordynn Dudley, a freshman forward, was named the 2023 ACC Freshman Player of the Year and also made it to the ACC All-Conference First Team. Both Echegini and Dudley were selected for the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's All-America First Team.

The coaching staff also played a crucial role in the team's success. Head Coach Brian Pensky, in his first Division I Women's Soccer Championship, became only the second coach in school history to win a national championship. He was honored as the ACC Coach of the Year for his exceptional leadership and guidance throughout the season.

The resolution recognizes the contribution of all the players, coaches, and support staff who played a part in the Seminoles' victory. From the assistant coaches to the athletic trainer and equipment manager, every member of the team was instrumental in achieving the championship title. The resolution specifically mentions Assistant Coaches Bobby Shuttleworth, Aaron Brunner, Olivia Garcia, and Andrew Hudson; Director of Operations Sarah Buckley; athletic trainer Alora Sullivan; strength and conditioning coach Elisa Angeles; and equipment manager Frankie Grizzle-Malgrat, among others.

The resolution concludes by extending congratulations to the Florida State University women's soccer team and all those associated with the university on their remarkable achievement. It also directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit an enrolled copy of the resolution to FSU President Richard McCullough, Athletic Director Michael Alford, and Head Coach Brian Pensky.

With their exemplary skills, dedication, and teamwork, the FSU women's soccer team has made their university and the entire community proud. This victory not only adds to the rich history of the Florida State University Seminoles Athletics program but also showcases the immense talent and passion for the sport exhibited by these exceptional athletes.
