Washington, D.C. - Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate to congratulate the Florida State University (FSU) football team for their undefeated season and victory in the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship. The resolution recognizes the team's outstanding performance despite facing adversity and injuries throughout the season.

According to the resolution, the FSU Seminoles finished the regular season undefeated for the sixth time in program history. They clinched their 16th ACC Football Championship since joining the conference in 1992. The team emerged victorious in the 19th ACC Football Championship game, defeating the nationally-ranked University of Louisville Cardinals.

The resolution also highlights individual achievements within the team. Quarterback Jordan Travis was named the 2023 ACC Football Player of the Year and the 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Michael Norvell, in his fourth season as head coach, won his first ACC Football Championship and became only the fourth coach in program history to finish the regular season undefeated.

Despite their impressive performance, the FSU Seminoles were not selected for the College Football Playoffs, sparking controversy. The resolution criticizes the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for its opaque decision-making process and failure to adhere to its own protocols and guiding principles.

The resolution concludes by recognizing the entire Seminoles roster, coaches, and support staff for their outstanding season and contributions. It directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit an enrolled copy of the resolution to FSU President Richard McCullough, Athletic Director Michael Alford, and Head Coach Michael Norvell.
