Senator Rick Scott is calling for Harvard University to lose its federal funding due to its failure to condemn antisemitism on its campus. This comes after President Claudine Gay's testimony during a recent House Education and the Workforce Committee hearing, which was deemed "disgusting" by Senator Scott.
In response to Harvard's refusal to take action against President Gay, Senator Scott is demanding an immediate vote on the Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act. This bill, led by Senator Tim Scott and cosponsored by several senators including Rick Scott, aims to rescind federal education funding for colleges and universities that promote or facilitate antisemitic events or ideologies.
Senator Rick Scott expressed his outrage at the lack of condemnation from Harvard and other elite universities regarding the rampant antisemitism on their campuses. He stated, "Last week, millions of Americans were disgusted to see the leaders of America's elitist universities bow to Hamas-sympathizers and completely fail to condemn the raging antisemitism that is rampant on their campuses."
Scott further emphasized the need to protect Jewish students from being targeted by Hamas fanatics on college campuses. He asserted, "I am sick and tired of seeing Jewish students be afraid to walk through their own college campuses and be targeted by Hamas fanatics at their homes, businesses and in their classrooms."
The Senator's proposed bill would revoke all taxpayer grants and funds that Harvard receives from the U.S. government. He added, "We need to pass this important bill now in light of this ridiculous display by Harvard so all taxpayer grants, funds... every single cent Harvard receives from the U.S. taxpayers is revoked."
This call for action follows the resignation of University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, who took a stand against antisemitism. However, Harvard has chosen to protect President Gay despite condemnation from the White House.
Senator Rick Scott's demand for a vote on the Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act highlights the urgent need to address and eradicate antisemitism within higher education institutions. Harvard's failure to condemn antisemitism has prompted calls for consequences, including the loss of federal funding.
