On Sunday, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee made a controversial decision to drop Florida State University (FSU) from its previous 4th-place ranking and exclude them from the upcoming playoffs. This decision has raised questions about the integrity of the committee's process and has led to calls for transparency.

Sen. Rick Scott of Florida expressed his concerns about the committee's decision and demanded answers from the committee chairman, Boo Corrigan. Scott emphasized the importance of transparency in a letter to Corrigan, stating, "Given the unprecedented nature of their recent decision, an unprecedented commitment to transparency is required." He also highlighted the significant impact of the committee's decisions on hopes, dreams, and billions of dollars in economic activity.

Scott, as a U.S. Senator, explained his involvement in the issue by stating, "I won't stand around and say nothing while people in my state get screwed." He called for maximum transparency to understand why FSU was excluded and to address the perception of an unfair system.

The committee's decision to exclude FSU has created a perception that winning is less important than losing to the "right" teams. Scott expressed his concern about this perception, stating, "That should infuriate every fan, coach, and player in the country. It's not right." He highlighted the inconsistency of the committee's decision by comparing it to a previous case where Ohio State University was not punished for the loss of their quarterback to injury.

In his letter to Chairman Corrigan, Scott requested that the committee respond to several questions to ensure transparency. He asked for details about how each member of the committee voted, any private communications they had with each other or individuals affiliated with ESPN or the Southeastern Conference, and whether any members recused themselves. Scott also called for information on the committee's ethical and conflict of interest standards.

The controversy surrounding the committee's decision has called into question the integrity of the College Football Playoff system. Scott emphasized the need for answers and stated, "We need to know how each member of the committee voted; what private communications, if any, they had; and whether any members recused themselves from this process."

Scott concluded by highlighting the upcoming changes to the playoff system, with a 12-team playoff set to be implemented next year. However, he emphasized that this alone would not solve the problem and that transparency is still needed.

The FSU faithful and college football fans continue to demand an appropriate response from the committee regarding this controversial decision. Scott's efforts to bring transparency to the process have shed light on the need for accountability and fairness in the College Football Playoff system.

Republican Rick Scott, a former governor of Florida and current U.S. Senator, stands with FSU in demanding transparency from the CFP Committee.
