U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and a group of Republican colleagues are urging President Joe Biden to take action against foreign nationals who endorse or support Hamas or other Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO). They are calling for the enforcement of existing law that prohibits supporters of terrorism or terrorist groups from entering the United States.
In a statement, Senator Rubio emphasized the importance of upholding the law and ensuring that those who promote Hamas do not enjoy the privileges of living in America. He said, "It is a blessing to live in America and any individual that is promoting Hamas should have that privilege revoked. Republicans are united in calling on President Biden to enforce current law and revoke the visas of any foreign national who supports Hamas or any other Foreign Terrorist Organization."
Senator Rubio is seeking to pass a resolution in the Senate by unanimous consent to address this issue. Joining him in this effort are Senators Marsha Blackburn, Katie Boyd Britt, Rick Scott, Kevin Cramer, J.D. Vance, Ted Budd, Pete Ricketts, Tommy Tuberville, Ron Johnson, John Cornyn, and John Hoeven. U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales is also introducing a companion resolution in the House of Representatives.
This call for action comes after Senator Rubio sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on October 15, demanding a review and revocation of visas for those who have endorsed or embraced Hamas's terrorist activities. The letter highlights the concern over foreign nationals in the United States who have shown support for Hamas's call for an international "day of rage" and the terrorist acts committed against Israel.
The current law in the United States already prohibits the entry of supporters of terrorism or terrorist groups. However, there have been instances where foreign nationals have openly supported Hamas and its terrorist activities. This has raised concerns among lawmakers who believe that these individuals should not be allowed to stay in the country.
Senator Rubio and his colleagues are taking a firm stance on this issue, urging President Biden to enforce the existing law and revoke the visas of those who support Hamas or any other Foreign Terrorist Organization. Their efforts aim to ensure the safety and security of the United States by preventing individuals who endorse or espouse terrorist activities from entering the country.
As this resolution moves forward, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will respond to this call for action. The issue of national security and the prevention of terrorism will continue to be at the forefront of discussions among lawmakers and policymakers.
