In the wake of recent international support for Hamas and acts of terrorism against Israel, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is seeking to pass a resolution in the US Senate urging President Joe Biden to enforce existing law and revoke the visas of foreign citizens who back or engage in activities supporting Hamas or other Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs).
"It is a privilege to live in the United States. Any individual who promotes Hamas should have that privilege revoked. Republicans are united in calling on President Biden to enforce existing law and revoke the visas of any foreign citizen who supports Hamas or any other foreign terrorist organization," stated Senator Rubio.
Joining Senator Rubio in this effort are Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Katie Boyd Britt (R-AL), Rick Scott (R-FL), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Ted Budd (R-NC), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), John Cornyn (R-TX), and John Hoeven (R-ND). Additionally, Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) will introduce a complementary resolution in the House of Representatives.
Looking back, on October 15th, Senator Rubio sent a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, demanding that he review and revoke the visas of those who had supported Hamas' terrorist activity.
The call to enforce existing law and take action against Hamas sympathizers comes in response to the international support and applause for Hamas' call for an "international day of rage" and the acts of terrorism committed against Israel. It is a unified effort by Republican lawmakers to ensure that those who support Hamas or any other foreign terrorist organization face consequences for their actions.
As this issue gains traction, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will respond to this bipartisan call to enforce existing law and protect national security interests. The resolution put forth by Senator Rubio and his colleagues highlights the importance of holding accountable those who support terrorism and underscores the need for a vigilant approach to immigration and national security.
The actions taken by lawmakers like Senator Rubio and Representative Gonzales demonstrate a commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the safety and security of the United States and its allies. As the debate continues, it is clear that there is a strong determination to address the issue of foreign citizens supporting terrorist organizations and take the necessary steps to maintain the integrity of US visa programs.
In the coming weeks, the resolution will be a topic of discussion in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, as lawmakers work towards finding a solution that aligns with the principles of national security and the rule of law. The hope is that the Biden administration will heed the bipartisan call to enforce existing law and revoke the visas of those who support Hamas and other foreign terrorist organizations, thereby sending a clear message that the United States will not tolerate those who engage in or support acts of terrorism.
