U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has called on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to review and revoke the visas of individuals who have endorsed or embraced Hamas's terrorist activities. In a letter addressed to Blinken, Rubio expressed concern over the increase in demonstrations in support of Hamas on American soil.
Rubio emphasized the need for swift action in response to Hamas's brutal attacks on Israeli civilians. He stated, "Hamas slaughtered, raped, mutilated, and kidnapped innocent Israeli civilians—as well as dozens of Americans." Rubio highlighted the disturbing fact that pro-Hamas protests have taken place on college campuses in the United States.
Referring to the existing law, Rubio pointed out that supporters of terrorism are prohibited from entering the United States. He cited 8 U.S.C. 1182, which states that an alien is inadmissible if they represent "a political, social, or other group that endorses or espouses terrorist activity." Rubio called for a thorough review of all visa holders and applicants, including coordination with law enforcement and universities.
Rubio urged Blinken to use existing law to eradicate hate from the country and announced his intention to introduce legislation to provide further tools to ensure supporters of Hamas and other Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) do not benefit from the generosity of the United States.
In his letter, Rubio emphasized the importance of maintaining the privilege of entering and staying in the United States for those who do not wish to harm or advocate on behalf of Hamas. He stated, "America is the most welcoming country in the world," but added that this privilege should not be extended to those who support terrorism.
Rubio concluded his letter by expressing his gratitude for Blinken's attention to this important matter and welcomed his input.
The call from Senator Rubio to revoke visas for Hamas sympathizers comes in response to Hamas's global "day of rage" and their call for acts of violence worldwide. Rubio's letter highlights the need to take decisive action against those who endorse or embrace Hamas's terrorist activities, particularly those living, studying, or working in the United States on visas.
Rubio's efforts align with the United States' commitment to combatting terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. By urging the revocation of visas for Hamas sympathizers, Rubio aims to protect the United States from individuals who wish to do harm or advocate on behalf of a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization like Hamas.
