In a recent interview with Cristina Londoño of Noticias Telemundo, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) discussed the terrorist attacks against Israel by Hamas, an ally of Iran. Rubio also expressed his disagreement with the controversial stance taken by Colombian President Gustavo Petro following the weekend's events.
Rubio highlighted the fragility of global peace, stating, "I believe that the threat to world peace is always present. But at this moment, there is an effort to eliminate a terrorist group called Hamas. There is always the danger that this could spread to other groups who share their ideology and see it as an opportunity to attack Israel."
He clarified that Israel is not asking the United States to send soldiers or take direct military action. Instead, Israel is seeking a commitment from the US to support them in case their defense materials run out. Rubio assured, "We will provide them with the necessary support. Israel pays for these weapons themselves. So, we will continue with that commitment. Undoubtedly, the current situation is very concerning, and a group like Hamas needs to be completely defeated. Otherwise, they will return and commit crimes like these again."
When discussing the concern for civilians in Palestine and how to prevent deaths, Rubio emphasized that the intention of the attacks is not to kill civilians but to eliminate Hamas. He criticized Hamas, stating, "Unfortunately, Hamas, on top of being terrorists, are cowards. They hide behind civilians and prevent them from leaving certain areas. The blame for what is happening lies with them. It is unpleasant. But in my opinion, Israel has no other choice. If this group is not eliminated, they will try to eliminate Israel."
Rubio also addressed Iran's involvement with Hamas and the tactics being used. He stated, "Iran has always supported Hamas, and without Iran, there is no Hamas. Without Iran, Hamas does not have the capacity to carry out an attack like this. These tactics have never been seen before, but it is a danger that was known to exist. Israel has admitted that they were caught by surprise, and we need to study how it happened. But at the same time, we need to eliminate this group once and for all."
Regarding the support of the Venezuelan regime and the President of Colombia for Hamas, Rubio expressed concern. He said, "The support from the Maduro regime is open coordination, and that is undoubtedly worrying. If elements of Hezbollah ask the Venezuelan regime for fake passports so they can travel and enter the US or another country, they will be given, sold, or given away."
Turning to Colombia, Rubio criticized President Gustavo Petro's remarks, stating, "The Colombian people do not support these elements. Unfortunately, they have a president who lacks reason and must be confused on matters of morality like this. He openly said that Israel is as guilty as these terrorists. These comments are very concerning. But it is regrettable that Colombia, such an important country with a strong alliance to the US in the past, is in the hands of an individual who is so confused."
In conclusion, Senator Marco Rubio expressed his concerns over the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. He called for the complete defeat of Hamas and emphasized the importance of supporting Israel in its defense against terrorism. Rubio also highlighted the involvement of Iran and the worrying support from the Venezuelan regime and the President of Colombia for Hamas.
