After five years on the job with the City of Atlantic Beach, including three years as city manager, Shane Corbin has accepted a leadership position with the City of New Smyrna Beach. The City Commission is slated to begin discussing its path toward filling the city manager position at its Jan. 23 meeting.

Corbin previously served as the City of Atlantic Beach’s planning and community development director. As development services director for the City of New Smyrna Beach, he will manage a team of 38 planners, engineers, inspectors, technicians, plans examiners, and administrative staff. His resignation with the City of Atlantic Beach is effective Feb. 24.

During Corbin’s tenure in Atlantic Beach, the City took significant steps forward in the arena of municipal planning, along with other many other aspects of municipal government. Among the City’s accomplishments since 2018, the City updated its comprehensive plan and land development code; adopted a parks master plan, connectivity plan, sea level rise adaptation plan, Mayport Road vision implementation plan, and paid parking plan; modernized water and wastewater systems; improved its cultural arts and recreation, and waste management collection services; secured the construction of the East Coast Greenway; and achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification and recertification. Many of these accomplishments were completed while dealing with various challenges associated with the COVID-19 public health emergency.

“I thank you for the privilege of serving as your city manager. It has been the highlight of my career and I have truly built dozens of lifelong friendships in this wonderful community,” Corbin said in his resignation letter to City Commission members. “I wish you, our employees, and Atlantic Beach the best success moving forward.”
