Jacksonville University women's basketball took on FIU (1-2) in Swisher Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins (2-2) are back in the win column with an 82-71 victory.
The first quarter both programs traded points, Jacksonville ended the first quarter 21-14. At the half it was all the Panthers as FIU led during halftime by one 37-36. Jacksonville shot 50 percent from the field and the Panthers shot 57 percent.
JU came out with more fire in the second half, Delanya Gillard bringing the game within two, 58-60 with two free throws. In the final quarter the Dolphins remained on top. A huge three pointer from Shynia Jackson sparked energy from the Dolphins who finished outscoring the Panthers 24-11. Jacksonville went 10-14 from the field and FIU went 3-19 in the field in the fourth quarter.
Jackson and DeShari Graham ended the afternoon both with a double-double. Jackson had a career-high of 26 points and season-high 11 rebounds. Graham ended with 15 points and 10 rebounds, recording her first career double-double.
