Four members of the Jacksonville University women's golf team were recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association as All-American Scholars on Tuesday.
Mawgan Vater, Frantiska Lunackova, Jenna Fonda and Casey Powell each earned the prestigious honor, meeting the criteria that are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.
"These young women worked incredibly hard to put themselves in this position. With the travel and logistics associated with golf tournaments, it can be extremely hard to stay current," said Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services Andy Heston. "Casey, Fran, Jenna, and Mawgan consistently communicated with their faculty and did everything you could ask in terms of catching up in their classes.
"This group undoubtedly deserves this recognition and we're incredibly proud of them."
Vater, who graduated this spring as international business and sport business double-major, once again far exceeded the prerequisite of a 3.5 GPA to qualify for the team, by earning a 3.97 GPA. She was recognized as a Top-25 student in the Davis College of Business in 2020-21 and was honorable mention International Business Student of the Year this past school year. The Buntingford, Hertfordshire, England native has been an All-American Scholar all four years she played at JU.
A graduate transfer this past season, Lunackova posted a 3.91 GPA in her Masters of Kinesiology program. It marks the fourth time she earned the honor, previously being named an All-American Scholar in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21. Her time in undergrad was marked by successes in the classroom, in addition to on the course. She was a three-time Sun Belt Commissioner's List member, a two-time President's List member and made both the Dean's List and Sun Belt All-Academic team once.
Fonda, a sophomore, makes the list for the first time. A psychology major, she posted a 3.67 GPA this past year. She was joined as a first-time All-American Scholar honoree by Powell, a freshman who is still undecided on a major. She stood out in the classroom in her first year of college, recording a 3.93 GPA.
JU has had multiple athletes recognized on the team for eight consecutive seasons.
