In their final GCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Edward Waters Women's Track & Field team finished third in this year's edition held at Hahnville High School.
The Lady Tigers completed the two-day event with 102 points. Philander Smith took the runner-up position with 169 points, while Dillard took the overall title with 255 points.
Edward Waters found success in the field events, led by sophomore Amy Hernandez who won the Women's Discus with a toss of 34.87m (114' 5"). Hernandez also took silver in the Women's Shot Put with a long of 11.08m (36' 3").
Senior Kamiyah Robinson placed second in the Women's Javelin with a toss of 28.20m (92' 6"). NAIA National Championships qualifier Tiara Taylor wrapped up her successful GCAC career with a second place finish in the Women's Triple Jump with a leap of 11.44m (37' 6.5"), while also placing third in the Women's Long Jump at 5.16m (16' 11.25").
Sha'Kawanza Brown placed second in the Women's Long Jump in her first GCAC Championships with a leap of 5.35m (17' 6.75").
On the Track, Dasia Stevens took the Women 100m Hurdles title with a time of 15.02s., The EWU 4x100m Relay team of Dasia Stevens, Janiya Peterson, Akyma David, and Sha'Kawanza Brown) took the silver medal in the event witha time of 51.82s.
Also, for her efforts this season, head coach Le'Titia Parsons-Davis was honored by her peers with the 2022 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year Award. For Parsons-Davis, it is her first GCAC honor in her three-year career as EWU head coach.
The Lady Tigers will next compete at the three-day UNF Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida, starting on Thursday, April 28th.
