Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Team Duval present Black History Month commemorative events

Duval County Public Schools recently issued the following announcement.

Team Duval is proud to partner with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in bringing together two community events in commemoration of Black History Month.

Family Movie Night: Red Tails

  • What: The community is invited to watch the courageous efforts of the Tuskegee Airmen in the film, “Red Tails.” Prior to the film, there will be a ceremony honoring Jacksonville natives who served as Tuskegee Airmen.
  • When: Saturday, Feb. 12 at 5 PM
  • Where: 121 Financial Ballpark
  • Tickets: The first 2,000 attendees on the day of the event will receive free bowl seating.   After the first 2,000 guests, bowl seating tickets are $1. Field seating tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance or the day of the event.
Heritage Classic: Raines vs. Ribault

  • What: Learn about the Negro American League through a baseball game between the Raines Vikings and the Ribault Trojans where they will wear Jacksonville Red Cap Negro American League jerseys as they take the field to compete for the A. Philip Randolph Cup.
  • When: Friday, Feb. 18 at 6:35 PM
  • Where: 121 Financial Ballpark
  • Tickets:  A limited number of free general admission tickets are available to DCPS families.  Parents/guardians can visit www.duvalschools.org/HeritageClassic to make their ticket request.  General admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance or the day of the event. For group tickets, please contact the Jumbo Shrimp at (904) 358-2846.
The events are presented through a collaboration with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the district’s African American History Task Force, the Department of Family and Community Engagement, and the district’s Parent Academy.
