Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.

If revenge is a dish best served cold, then it was rather chilly inside of a raucous Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex on Tuesday night. Edward Waters avenged an earlier season loss in grand fashion by sweeping SIAC Eastern Division leading Albany State, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) to extend their season best winning streak to seven consecutive games.

EWU (14-6, 10-2 SIAC) rode the momentum of the crowd and played their best match of the season Tuesday night, hitting early and often against the Golden Rams. The Purple & Orange hit an impressive .239 in the match and held Albany State to .033 on the evening. The EWU defensive effort showed in large amounts in the match as well, recording eight blocks and outdigging the Golden Rams 47-43.

The Lady Tigers were led once again by freshman standout Saldy Amparo Smith, who came just one dig short of recording another double-double, finishing with a game-high 12 kills, including three service aces, and nine digs. Junior Arielly De Souza finished her night with eight kills and a team high 12 digs, while freshman Catherine Richards finished with six kills and sophomore Caitlyn Willis recorded four kills for EWU.

Senior Andrea Diaz Merced dished out a game-high 19 assists, while fellow senior Katarina Ribar had 10 assists for the Lady Tigers.

Diaz Merced also had 11 digs on the night, with fellow senior Anyssa Guzman finished her night with eight digs for EWU.

The Purple & Orange will put their winning streak on the line once again this coming Friday afternoon in another SIAC matchup against Allen University with first serve set for 4:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
