Women's Golf sits second after round one at Edisto

Jacksonville University issued the following announcement on Oct. 10.

Jacksonville University women's golf sits in second place after day one action at the Edisto Island Invitational.

Three Dolphins shot par or better in the first round on Sunday at The Plantation Course at Edisto.

Jenna Fonda shot 1-under par in her opening round, firing a 70 and is T4 on the leaderboard with 36-holes to play. She started the day as a model of consistency, sinking seven 

straight pars to begin her round. She hit three total birdies and only missed par or better once.

Frantiska Lunackova and Macarena Aguilera are both T6 after opening round 71s. Lunackova did it with 16 pars, including 10 in a row to start the round, and one birdie, while 

Aguilera bounced back from starting her day with consecutive bogeys to quickly sink a pair of birdies to get back to even before rattling off 10 straight pars to end her day.

Mawgan Vater had a stretch of eight straight pars and Casey Powell had two birdies and 10 pars in her first round.

Laura Pasalodos, competing as an individual, shot a 2-over 73 and is T17. She birdied her third hole of the day before going on a tear, sinking 11 straight pars.

The Dolphins collectively made the most pars in the field on the first day, sinking 68, and were second-best on Par-4s as a group.

Fonda was 2-under on Par-4s and 1-under on Par-5s, both the second-best scores of the day on such holes. Aguilera was also 1-under on Par-5s, while shooting even on Par-4s, 

while Lunackova and Pasalodos both shot even on Par-3s.

Lunackova's 16 pars were the most in the field, and Pasalodos' 15 were right behind her. Aguilera, Fonda and Vater each had 14.

Second round action starts at 10 a.m. on Monday morning with a shotgun start.
