Men's Cross Country Jumps to Fifth in South Region

5

University of North Florida Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 5.

The North Florida men's cross country team jumped up to No. 5 in the South Region Rankings released by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday, Oct. 5

The Ospreys go up four spots in the rankings after heading home from Columbia, Mo., as the Gans Creek Classic champions over ranked regional opponents Texas A&M and Missouri.

They jump over Belmont, who placed ninth at the Gans Creek Classic, as well as Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee. They also are two spots ahead of Lipscomb to become the top-ranked team in the ASUN once again.

Senior Nathan Jubran made history last Friday when he broke the record for the fastest 8k time in UNF history. He recorded a time of 23:54.7 and also became the first Osprey to run a sub-24 minute 8k mark.

Sophomore Jake Turner and senior Noah Perkins also broke into the record books at the Gans Creek Classic when they ran the fifth and seventh-best 8k times in program history respectively. Turner now has two top-six 8k times at UNF through the first four meets of his collegiate career.

The UNF cross country teams head back to Tallahassee, Fla., for the second time this season to compete at the FSU XC Invitational/Pre-Nationals meet on Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 am.
