University of North Florida Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.
Libero Makes it Six ASUN Defensive Player of the Week Honors
North Florida volleyball libero Rocio Moro continues to add to an already extensive list of awards after being named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in her career as announced by the league office Monday, Sept. 13.
With this week's honor, Moro becomes the only player in ASUN history to be named to the award six times in her career. The libero was honored once in 2019, three times in the Spring 2021 season and twice in the last two weeks.
Moro surpasses FGCU's Dana Axner, Jacksonville's Mayara Prestes and Kennesaw State's Karlee Groover, all of which have five awards.
This past weekend, Moro posted 5.00 digs/set, posting matches of 17, 11 and 22 digs. The libero added nine assists to aid the Ospreys to a 2-1 weekend and 8-1 start to the season.
The San Juan, P.R., native is also a four-time ASUN Freshman of the Week honoree, giving her 10-combined weekly awards per the ASUN. She was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Year during the Spring 2021 campaign, as well as the ASUN Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Her awards aren't the only thing that do the talking for Moro. The libero holds the record for digs/set in UNF history at 5.04. She's currently ranked 9th in UNF history for digs with 1,189.
