Tuesday, September 8th is International Literacy Day!
We are excited to take part in this awesome celebration which will help kick off many literacy activities throughout the year at DCSA!
Below are some cool things we are doing to honor this special day (these are optional entirely optional)
- Sharing our writing and favorite read alouds! Record yourself reading aloud your favorite children's story or poem. You can also submit a recording or yourself reading your own original story, poem, song, rap etc. We will have prizes for original work! Please email your submissions to Ms. Georgia at gwaddups@duvalcharter.org. We also welcome submissions from staff and family members . Please make sure you put your student's name with your submission. Please note video submissions will be shared with other students and families in our school. They may also be featured on our Facebook page and/or website .
- Books for Africa! Starting Tuesday, September 8th, through the end of October we will be collecting gently used books to donate to children and families in need in Africa. There will be a book donation bin in the cafeteria so students can drop of their donations when they arrive at school.
- International Pen Pals for K-5. This is an optional and fun way for us to connect to students across the globe! If you are interested in participating, please let you reading teacher know and we will begin writing letters to our new friends
- "Write for Rights" for 6-8 students. If you are interested in joining the battle against injustice both locally and internationally please let your ELA teacher know. We will be writing letters/emails to make a difference in our country and the world!
Thank you for sharing in our commitment to making an impact with the power of literacy!
