U.S. Congressman John H. Rutherford has announced the commencement of the annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Florida's 5th Congressional District. The competition, known as the Artistic Discovery Competition, has been held since 1982 and has seen participation from over 650,000 high school students.

Congressman Rutherford expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating: "Highlighting the talented young artists who live in our district through the Congressional Art Competition is something I look forward to doing every year and this year is no different." He added, "I can’t wait to see all of the great artwork high school students across Florida’s Fifth District create, and I will be honored to showcase the winning piece in the halls of Congress for thousands to see as they visit our nation’s Capitol building."

The winning artwork will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year, representing Florida’s Fifth Congressional District. Students are invited to submit original works that may include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography.

Submissions must be delivered by April 11, 2025, at 4 p.m., to Congressman Rutherford's District Office located at 4130 Salisbury Rd., Suite 2500, Jacksonville, FL 32216. Further details about submission guidelines and eligibility requirements can be found on www.rutherford.house.gov/art.
