Mayor Donna Deegan has announced the formation of the Jacksonville Journey Forward initiative, with an 11-member Board of Directors representing various sectors in Jacksonville. The board's inaugural meeting is scheduled for February 27, 2025, at City Hall. This initiative aims to address violence and crime through prevention, intervention, and collaboration.

The board consists of members from law enforcement, education, the judicial system, public health, and community advocacy. The diverse expertise aligns with the program’s mission to unify different perspectives for a safer Jacksonville.

Mayor Deegan emphasized the initiative's significance: “Journey Forward is more than an initiative. It’s a commitment to our community’s safety, health, and future.” She highlighted the nominees' talent and shared vision for improving neighborhood safety and individual opportunities.

City Council President Randy White also expressed his support: “The nomination and appointment of these three dedicated individuals to the Journey Forward board reflects my commitment to a brighter, safer future for our city.”

The board will develop strategies focusing on juvenile justice intervention, ex-offender reentry, family support, and neighborhood stabilization. Appointments include James Ellout from United Way of Northeast Florida and W.C. Gentry from Gentry Law among others.

The Jacksonville Journey Forward Initiative seeks sustainable solutions by uniting city agencies and community leaders to enhance public safety and quality of life in Jacksonville.
