Senator Rick Scott has expressed his strong support for Tulsi Gabbard, President Trump's nominee for Director of National Intelligence. In an op-ed published in the Washington Examiner, Scott outlined his reasons for backing Gabbard ahead of her confirmation hearing with the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Scott highlighted what he sees as a mandate from President Trump to bring significant change to Washington. He believes that appointing former Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard as the director of national intelligence aligns with this goal. "President Donald Trump was elected with a mandate to deliver bold change in Washington, and his choice of former Rep. and Lt. Col. Tulsi Gabbard to be the director of national intelligence does just that," Scott wrote.
The senator criticized the previous administration under Joe Biden, suggesting it weakened America's global standing through appeasement policies. He cited former FBI Director Christopher Wray's acknowledgment of elevated terrorist threats during Biden's term as evidence of these failures.
Scott emphasized his confidence in Gabbard's capabilities and commitment to national security. "I completely support her nomination and will vote to confirm her as the next director of national intelligence because she loves our country and has spent decades serving and protecting it," he stated.
In discussions with Gabbard, Scott found her committed to restoring trust in government while safeguarding citizens' rights. He praised her stance against domestic surveillance practices attributed to the Biden administration, asserting that she would focus on using intelligence resources effectively to enhance American safety.
Scott also pointed out that any shortcomings within intelligence agencies directly impact public safety, expressing trust in Gabbard's leadership skills to address these issues. "She has put her life on the line in service to our nation, proudly represented her constituents as a member of Congress, and is ready to continue her service as director of national intelligence," he concluded.
