Rep. John Rutherford, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 5th district since 2017, shared his views on issues affecting both local anglers and international relations through a series of tweets. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, and a graduate of Florida State University, Rutherford has been actively involved in addressing concerns pertinent to his constituents.

On November 25, 2024, Rep. Rutherford emphasized the importance of reliable access to red snapper fishing for Florida's anglers. He shared a letter urging action on this matter: "Florida’s anglers deserve dependable access to red snapper fishing."

In another tweet on the same day, he mentioned feedback from local fishermen regarding the abundance of red snapper off the coast of Northeast Florida. He expressed concern over potential regulations that could restrict fishing activities and advocated for better data utilization by NOAA: "I've heard repeatedly from local anglers that there are more red snapper off the coast of NE Florida than ever before."

The following day, November 26, 2024, Rep. Rutherford addressed an international issue involving Mexico's expropriation of Vulcan Materials' port operation. He condemned this action as unlawful and unacceptable and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the Trump Administration to ensure accountability: "Mexico's expropriation of Vulcan Materials' port operation is unlawful & unacceptable."
