Senator Rick Scott is continuing his efforts to secure disaster relief for communities affected by recent hurricanes, including Florida, Puerto Rico, and other states. His proposed Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act aims to provide tax relief for those impacted by disasters such as Hurricanes Helene, Debby, and Milton this year, as well as Ian, Nicole, Fiona, and Idalia in previous years. The legislation passed the House but has stalled in the Senate.

Scott stated, “As I travel the state and talk to Floridians impacted by hurricanes this year and in years past, one thing is abundantly clear: they are sick and tired of their federal government playing politics as they wait for relief and resources they’ve needed for MONTHS and YEARS.” He criticized Democrats for delaying the bill's progress.

The Senator also urged Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to reconvene Congress to address disaster funding needs. Scott called for immediate USDA assistance through state block grants to support Florida's agricultural recovery. Alongside Senator Marco Rubio, he introduced a bill proposing $20 billion for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Additionally, Scott collaborated with Senators Thom Tillis, Ted Budd, Tim Scott, and Bill Cassidy on new legislation aimed at replenishing the Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Program. The Relief Act would allocate $550 million to support SBA loans.

Scott is also advocating for measures to reduce costs for families affected by disasters. His proposals include a non-refundable tax break for flood insurance purchases and a $10,000 tax break on property insurance premiums. He recently introduced the READY Account Act to help individuals save tax-free for home mitigation and disaster response expenses.

The Senator continues to push various initiatives related to disaster relief:

- October 29: Joined Sen. Thom Tillis on legislation concerning SBA Disaster Loan Program

- October 28: Sent letter with Sen. Marco Rubio supporting Seminole Tribe’s request following Hurricane Milton

- October 21: Urged OMB to assess funding needs for USDA block grants

- October 16: Shared Hurricane Milton Resource Guide

- October 8: Supported pre-landfall emergency declaration requests

Senator Scott remains committed to securing necessary aid for communities recovering from hurricane impacts.
